  • Race Report

Red Bull KTM factory rider, Jeffrey Herling has gone 1-1 to win the MXGP of Latvia, the ninth time in his career he has won at Kegums and his 109th Grand Prix in his illustrious career. Second overall was another KTM factory man, in Lucas Coenen with 2-2 and third Romain Febvre with 6-3 scores.

World championship points are now Romain Febvre 530 points, Lucas Coenen 504pts, Glenn Coldenhoff 362pts, Maxime Renaux 347pts, Ruben Fernandez 338pts. So, the points lead by Febvre is now 26 points and getting smaller and smaller each weekend.

Jeffrey Herlings: It was really good, just the lappers, they stayed in the main line and cost me a lot of time in the last laps. I got 1-1-1 and I don't know, I won last week with a 2-1 and second win in a row, pleased with that. I am thankful for the win and Lucas and Romain were pushing and they are really good as well. Looking forward to the next race.

MXGP Moto Two

Herlings again up the inside of Coenen and Febvre and Bonacorsi fighting for third place. Then came Fernandez, Geerts, Guadagnini, Renaux, Coldenhoff, Pumpurs, and Vlaanderen. Herlings again trying to get a gap between himself and Coenen, and Febvre already 3.4 seconds back in third.

Herlings lead on lap two was four seconds over Coenen and Febvre trying to stick with Coenen, but no luck in that job. Fernandez and Bonacorsi in a big battle for fourth place and the Spaniard gets into fourth with a pass.

Lap three and the lead by Herlings was 3.9 seconds, with Febvre six seconds off the leader, then Fernandez, Bonacorsi, Geerts, Renaux, Coldenhoff, Vlaanderen, Guadagnini in 10th. Geerts looking very nice trying to get some consistent form.

Coenen getting the lead down a little after five laps and Febvre losing ground on the Belgian, so possibly more points gained by the teenager. Geerts all over Fernandez and Herlings lead suddenly 7.3 seconds. The Bullet is on today.

Febvre pushing hard to get back on the back wheel of Coenen and these two are around eight seconds off the leader. Fernandez 22 seconds back from Herlings in fourth place, then Geerts, Bonacorsi, Renaux, Coldenhoff, Vlaanderen, and Guadagnini in 10th. Geerts into fourth position and 25 seconds off the leader.

Lap nine and the lead was nine seconds and Coenen a nice lead over Febvre. Coenen just continues to chip away at the red plate lead and with tracks like Lommel, Finland and Arnhem coming up, we might have a very close situation in the final few rounds of the championship.

Febvre caught Coenen again and was putting huge pressure on the teenager, with Herlings still eight secodns ahead of those two. Febvre a little reckless, but not giving up. Herlings wins the moto from Coenen and Febvre and the Grand Prix from the same two riders.
