  • Race Report

Red Bull KTM factory rider, Jeffrey Herlings continues to add victories to his name in 2025, with a moto win in Latvia. The Dutchman had to fight off a very determined Lucas Coenen late in the moto, but Herlings wrapped up another race win in the Latvian sand.

Series leader Romain Febvre was holding down fourth place, when he crashed and dropped to sixth place. More points gained for Coenen in the championship fight and surely the Kawasaki rider is starting to worry with the gap now 28 points.

Something of a Benelux domination with Glenn Coldenhoff third, nearly a minute behind the two front men. Brian Bogers fourth, with Frenchman, Febvre finishing in fifth.

Championship points are now Romain Febvre 510 points, Lucas Coenen 482pts, Glenn Coldenhoff 348pts, Maxime Renaux 334pts, Ruben Fernandez 323pts.

Jeffrey Herlings: He did (pushed me hard), I tried to overtake him quickly. I led from the first lap and passed Lucas and led the whole moto and he was charging at the end and I didn't know what he was going to do, as its hard to lead rather than follow. Looking forward to the second moto.

Coenen and Herlings battled for the holeshot with the two nearly colliding and Herlings quickly passed the Belgian, who had holeshot, then came Febvre, Bogers, Coldenhoff, Fernandez, Watson, Bonacorsi, Van de Moosdijk and Vlaanderen 10th. Dutchmen everywhere in this sand.

Herlings just taken off and sprinting away from everyone and the lead was already a couple of seconds. Coenen also well away from Bogers who was in third. The gap for Herlings was 3.8 seconds on lap two and Bogers was seven seconds off the leader.

Herlings showing why he has won here eight times as the gap went to four seconds as Coenen held a big gap over Bogers and Febvre was 9.2 off the leader’s pace. Both Herlings and Coenen clocking super quick laps.

Lap four and the lead was around four seconds still, both Herlings and Coenen looking brilliant as third placed man Bogers was now 15 seconds off the pace, with Febvre 17 seconds back, then came Coldenhoff, Fernandez, Watson, Bonacorsi, Van De Moosdijk and Vlaanderen.

Herlings really controlling the race up front, keeping the distance from himself and Coenen a safe gap, with Bogers now 21 seconds back and Febvre not letting the Dutchman get too far ahead. Then came Coldenhoff and Fernandez.

Coenen got the gap down to 2.9 seconds and maybe making a Herlings type charge as the race entered the final 15 minutes. 10 minutes remaining and the lead was 3.1 seconds and Bogers and Febvre 30 seconds off the Dutchman’s lead.

Coenen turned up the lap times and suddenly all over the back wheel of the Dutchman. Amazingly, at the 10 minutes to go mark is when Coenen made his charge, a period of a moto, that is was usually Herlings doing the final push. Herlings though responded and opened the gap up again. Febvre a crash and more points lost to Coenen in the championship.

Again Coenen made a charge to get close to Herlings and a mistake by Herlings and Coenen really putting a lot of pressure on the Dutchman. Brilliant from both riders. Great battle between Herlings and Coenen and Febvre back in sixth place as Coldenhoff passed Bogers, who crashed back to fourth. Herlings wins it from Coenen and Coldenhoff, with Bogers fourth and Febvre fifth.
