  • Race Report

Despite being out of the world championship picture, Red Bull KTM factory rider, Jeffrey Herlings has won his third straight Grand Prix, his 112th in his career and showed, that maybe, he is still the fastest man at least, in Europe. Tim Gajser was second overall with 2-2 scores and third was Ruben Fernandez with 5-3 scores. Fourth was Romain Febvre with 4-4 results.

In around 35 degree heat, the Dutchman scored a solid win, while the world championship pictures changed dramatically. While Romain Febvre had a solid weekend with 4-4 scores, but his main rival, Lucas Coenen was all over the place, with two very poor motos and his championship challenge is all but over.

The Belgian scored a ninth in moto one and then crashed at the start of the second moto and had to climb from last place, to finish 14th. The points lead to Febvre, is now 47 points, Romain Febvre 929 points, Lucas Coenen 882pts, Glenn Coldenhoff 665pts, Ruben Fernandez 599pts, and Jeffrey Herlings 582pts.

Jeffrey Herlings: So hot, I was cooking, but managed to cool off and very pleased to go 1-1-1 and looking forward to Australia and hope it isn't as hot as this one. I mean, the speed wasn't a problem, but I struggled with the heat. We have a week in Australia and I will try and get used to it. The people back home cannot believe how hot it is here.

Tim Gajser: I am super happy, today a big step from the injury. I felt super good and it was hot, and we pushed until the end and I really wanted to make the pass. We go to Australia for the last race and I look forward to that.

Ruben Fernandez: It has been a while and I have gone through some difficult races, but I wanted to step up the game and this helps to finish on a good note. I want to thank my team, my girlfriend and my family, this one is for them.

MXGP Moto Two

Gajser and Coenen fighting for the holeshot, but Coenen goes down and in last place, in fact, stuck in the first corner and his championship is over for 2025. Gajser led from Herlings, who quickly took the lead, then Gajser, Febvre, Fernandez, Jonass, Vlaanderen, Guadagnini, Bonacorsi, Geerts and Watson.

At this point, the points lead by Febvre was 56 points, as Coenen fought his way through the pack. Fortunately for the Belgian, only a handful of riders to pass to get into the points and he was quickly in 20th place.

Lap one it was Herlings, Gajser, Febvre, Fernandez, Vlaanderen, Guadganini, Bonacorsi, Geerts, Watson and Coldenhoff 10th. Coenen 19th on lap one, then quickly 18th place and the points gap around 50 points as we speak. Coenen into 17th, and all over Jonass for 16th spot.

On lap three Herlings led by 1.9 seconds over Gajser, with Febvre 6.2 back and Coenen 37 seconds back in 17th spot. Coenen with Jonass, Zac Watson and Renaux just ahead of him, as Coldenhoff passed Ben Watson.

Coenen with five points in 16th spot as he passed Zac Watson, the Aussie, and Jonass, but Fernandez goes past Febvre, to drop his points lead as well. Still looking like the Frenchman will be our World MXGP champion of 2025, but some little changes at least taking it to the final round in Australia.

Lap six and the lead by Herlings was 1.8 seconds over Gajser, with Fernandez third, then Febvre, Vlaanderen, Bonacorsi, Geerts, Guadagnini, Coldenhoff and Ben Watson in 10th, Coenen up to 15th place and six points. Gajser a mistake while chasing Herlings and lost major time. Lap 10 and the gap between the two legends was 2.4 seconds, with Fernandez 10 seconds back and Febvre 17 seconds back. Coenen in 14th place and at least the championship remains alive.

While Gajser closed up on the Duchman, Herlings continues his amazing form, winning the moto and the Grand Prix with 1-1 scores. Gajser second with 2-2 and Febvre with 4-4, but more importantly, more or less takes his second world championship, as Coenen struggled big time all weekend.
