Lawrence wins MXGP Race
Jett Lawrence of Team Australia dominated the MXGP qualification race at Ironman today. The young Aussie started in first and just blew the doors of his opposition. Team German rider, Ken Roczen was a solid second, with Team Frances, Romain Febvre third.
Jett Lawrence: Excuted the start and starting better as I hit the gate here last time I raced here. Just wanted to get some good laps in and I knew Kenny would be quick early, but I just found some lines and tried to make the least a mount of mistakes.
MXGP Qualifier
Lawrence with the lead in the MXGP qualifier, with Roczen second, then Coldenhoff, Talviku, Gifting, Cairoli, Febvre, Gajser, Gilbert, Fernandez and Seewer, with Tomac in 21st place. Gajser into fourth position and Tomac up to 19th place but struggling with traffic. Coenen crashed in turn one and miles off the pace.
Gajser moved into third as Lawrence and Roczen get away from everyone. On lap one it was a 1.5 second lead for Lawrence over Roczen, with Gajser already 10 seconds off the leader. Tomac up to 14th place and Coldenhoff struggling somewhat as he dropped to seventh place.
Lawrence now three seconds ahead of Roczen, as Gajser now seven seconds off from the German rider. Tomac up to 12th place and closing up on Gilbert and makes a pass on the Brit to move into 11th position. Coenen also struggling somewhat in 11th position. Febvre moved into third place as Gajser dropped to fifth.
Cairoli looking confidence in ninth position as he hounded Talviku, seems to be fighting for his spot. Coenen moved into ninth place with Tomac 11th. Lap four the lead by Lawrence was 4.3 seconds with Febvre 16 seconds off the pace, then came Fernandez and Gajser.
Coenen moved past Cairoli for eight and Tomac also pushing the Italian legend. Top ten on lap five was Lawrence, Roczen, Febvre, Fernandez, Gajser, Gifting, Coldenhoff, Coenen, Cairoli and Tomac in 10th.
Lawrence opened up to 10 seconds ahead of Roczen, with Febvre in third 20 seconds off the Aussie rider. Coenen closing up on Coldenhoff for seventh place. Coenen really pushing Coldenhoff, with Gifting not far ahead of those two.
Coenen into seventh, and Tomac stuck in 10th spot. Coldenhoff, out of the moto and seemingly injured. Coenen into sixth place, but 10 seconds off Gajser in fifth, so probably made his last pass in this moto. Lawrence wins from Roczen and Febvre.
