MXoN and GP In America
There is no doubt, while the sport in America and Europe is running nicely, we all look forward to more AMA vs GP races and while we await the 2025 MXon at Ironman in October of this year, there is a lot going on in the background for an AMA vs GP race in USA and it could happen sooner, rather than later.
We spoke with Davey Coombs from MXsports and in an interview already online here on MXlarge, a couple of things in the interview were worth mentioning again.
First, another MXoN in America in three years time and of course, not a USGP, but something very similar, which would pit not just a handful of AMA guys against the GP field, but a full-one AMA field taking on a full GP field. Or at least the best 20 or so, from each series. A lot of work behind the scenes needed, but its looking very positive. As Coombs told us.
"It is a little on the backburner on the moment," Coombs said. "But we have a plan and breaking some news here, we think a race in early summer, which would be in America and count for both AMA and GP points would be great. Turns out, our race, the High Point national, at Mount Morris, which is in June, and we could work that into the schedule. It doesn’t decide a championship, but David Luongo and I are still quietly talking about that and figuring stuff out, and we will talk more about that at the MXoN in October."
As for the 2025 MXoN, ticket sales are going through the roof it is expected to another addition of this legendary race and then American fans need to get ready for another MXoN in USA, pretty soon.
"It is going wonderfully, and we are very pleased with where we are. Just last weekend Infront people came to Redbud and then on the Monday, we visited Ironman. We did a sight visit with track changes and the set-up and it is so much better working with Infront and not fighting with Youthstream. We already know that the MXoN will return to America in 2028. What we do know, whether you are the American’s the French, the Dutch or whoever, everyone has their hands full with the Australians."
Of course, we also asked MXGP's Giuseppe Luongo a few weeks ago and like Coombs, he is very excited and happy that the two series work together, for the betterment of the fans. He told us this.
"All Motocross fans dream to see MXGP riders and American riders confront each other and race together, unfortunately for the moment it’s only possible at the MXoN, but we are working hard to have an MXGP in USA one day to be able to see all these stars battle it out on the race track all together. The goal for both sides of the Atlantic is to have an MXGP in USA, and we are all working hard on this. There are many details and hurdles that need to be overcome but I remain positive. It’s difficult to give a precise date, but it will happen and hopefully in the near future."
No rumours here, just facts and when the two most powerful men in motocross are talking and working together, the future can only be brighter and the chance to see all the best riders in the World racing more often is the best thing we can all hope for. Lawrence vs Herlings vs Lawrence vs Coenen vs Plessinger vs Febvre vs Prado vs Gajser is what we all want. Throw in a little Deegan vs Langenfelder vs Shimoda vs Adamo for good measure.
