MXoN - Friday Rider Comments
A great press conference with the teams and a lot of comments from the stars of the 2025 Monster Energy Motocross of Nations. Team USA, Team Australia, Team France, Team Germany, Team The Netherlands and Team Belgium, plus many more.
Eli Tomac: Well, lets start that it is special to host this event and there is pressure, but its good pressure and I checked the track out and it looks similar to when we race the nationals, so we have home track advantage and lets make the most of that. As a rider, you just have to roll with injuries, but I have confidence in these guys and we are going to be solid, I will say that. Of course, I want another shot at trying to beat the Lawrence brothers, so we meet again.
Justin Cooper: I had a tough time in Assen, and we won in Redbud, but the weather hasn’t been good for me and I am exciting to be here and no reason we can’t get a good result. To be honest, it was tough to stay motivated and I stayed ready and I got the call and I put in the time and stayed committed and it was just waiting to see if Haiden would be ready, but I am excited to be here and give everything I have. I thought I was comfortable, but I kept figuring things out and there was a transition phase, but I feel good on the bike, and I can ride more aggressive.
R. J. Hampshire: It just showed me how big this race is and the experience in Ernee was unforgettable and to do it again for my country and on home soil, I will take that. Ironman treats me well, and I put in what I learnt from France, just be consistent and get good starts. For sure it’s another step and Justin took the 250 spot and I feel like we are close on the 450 and you could have take either of us on the 450.
Jett Lawrence: I always look forward to it, seeing friends and race against the euro guys get to see where you are at. Also, the three days program for us and makes it fun. Also, the three race program and be part of a team. Our sport is solo based, but this one you work as a team.
Kyle Webster: I feel really good this year, spending some time getting used to the bike and stepping down to the 250 has been easier and I am really looking forward to it. I come in with good preparation and everyone has given me a hand over the last couple of months.
Hunter Lawrence: It was one of the highlights of our career, having tried for 40 years. We started in Redbud with third overall, our first podium and then second in Ernee and then winning last year. It is a fun event, and we really look forward to it. It has been quieter this year, but we have a lot of Australians coming over and we will have a lot of support. There is so much riding time in a GP weekend and come race day, everyone has the track dialled in and get up to speed and tomorrow we have 40 minutes of free practice, so anyone can get comfortable on the track.
Antonio Cairoli: I am looking forward to it, and I have some experience from the Motocross of Nations. I did some good races this year, and we had some problems with the bike, but everything is better now. I had a month off because I burnt my ass in the last race in America. We know the bike needs more time to be on top, to win or be top three, but this race gives a lot of surprises, with a lot of teams, so why not. We are here to be on the podium and Andrea was fighting for the title and Andrea Boncorsi has shown some top five range, and I think we have potential to be on the podium. Let the gate drop and let’s see. For sure, it is an extra pleasure to have the possibility to ride, and it’s been my dream to race an Italian brand, so it is something else to tick off my list. I am proud of the work we have done with the bike and to have it so competitive in such a short time. We did some rounds, had some good motos and we had some small issues with the bike, but it was a good appearance marketing wise. I think we made a good impression, and I would love to make more, but after the injury, I had to recover. Next year I would like to do some more races here.
Romain Febvre: A little bit of fun and its nice. We were fighting for the championship and after China it was easier, but before it was tense. To finish with the title is something special and every rider wishes for that. I enjoyed a little bit, just a week at home and we flew here on the Monday, and we rode Wednesday and that was fine. Actually, it looks bigger and wider on television, but it is a ground something we are used to, but I am surprised it isn’t better, we can get a track like this in Europe as well. It is a normal track. I think it is good, so we don’t have to adapt so much and get ready for the race. The championship was the goal and Nations is something else. I didn’t have much time off, just flew back from Australia on the Tuesday and then the Monday heading here. We are planning a party when I get back from America.
Mattis Valin: I feel good, we rode on Monday and worked together, and we trained on Wednesday, and we arrived at the track, and it looks pretty sick.
Maxime Renaux: Last year was a disappointment, not ending on the box, but many things happen in Matterley and that is what happens with this event, three riders for one country. We came back swinging for this event and the podium is what we aim for. It is great being back in USA and I have good memories from 2022. To me, the MX of Nations is a big event with a lot of media attention and for me, I had injuries this year, and went through some struggled, so it would be nice to end on a high note. Thanks to the guys in the US for all their help.
Ken Roczen: It is a tough question, the last couple of years I have been injured in the summer and last year was a struggle and this year also. Coming here, I did Unadilla, and I don’t have much moto time under my belt. We have a really good team to do some damage and a track I know well. I will give 110%, but we will know after tomorrow what our chances are. For me, I am a veteran now and done this many times and I know what to expect and I just try and stay calm and relax, as it’s a big event, but being mature gives you that calmness. You have to make it count and deliver the results and I have done this many times. I mean, every year, this is a very special event and its fun. It is also draining, but I take it in every year, because I never know how long I can do this, so it is an exciting race weekend for sure.
Tim Gajser: I mean, last year was nice, I went 1-1 and we did the best results for Slovenia and of course I watch the video, it’s a nice memory. New year, new race and it’s a nice track, so I look forward to it. That race win in Nations last year, was one of my best race wins, yes. We all show good speed this year and I slowly start to feel better. Jan Pancar has also shown good speed, and we have a decent team and we can do some good results. I would say I am not 100% but slowly getting there. China and Australia my speed was good, and every race its gets better, so hopefully we can do a good one. I mean, I will try and beat Jett, but we are in US and we never raced here, but we have a lot of time to get used to the bike and I have shown I can ride in front, so we will see.
Andrea Adamo: It is something amazing, from 2022 to now, a lot of stuff going on. Tony was my team manager and switched to another brand and now we race together. For sure it is something extra for the team, because 2023 and 2024 we have had young guys in the team and now we have Tony in the team and if we have anything to ask, he has all the answers there. I am fit and was in the fight in the championship. I can confirm Tony is still fast, we train together. I did Loretta Lynn in 2018, and I was 14 and I couldn’t race in Europe until I was 15 so we organized to come to Loretta Lynn, and I did it and it was amazing. No sighting lap, nothing, just going into the moto. I was cool and I was proud to do something like this.
Glenn Coldenhoff: I mean, it is always special to be at such a big event. I am proud to represent my country for the 13th time. I have had great Nations, and some didn’t go too well. I mean, we have Kay finishing second in the World, me third and Calvin 6th, so we come in as an underdog, especially because Jeffrey isn’t here, but we want a podium. You know, I have done that, tried to enjoy as much as possible, but I enjoy the most when I do well and I will live it likes it’s my last day.
Kay De Wolf: I gave everything I had and did everything I could and closed the gap to nine points after being 70 points behind. The MX2 rider is always important, and I spoke to Haiden this week and asked if he was scared for a take-out and we laughed about it.
Calvin Vlaanderen: It is always exciting to come to the Nations, especially when it is in America. I have had many times racing, and we finished on the podium in 2018 and 2019, and I have had some bad ones as well. I hope we can finish on the box.
Simon Langenfelder: For sure, being World champion is my biggest goal, and I didn’t think I would get to this moment and now I have it in my pocket. Having Kenny being the last world champion for Germany and I think we have a good team to fight for a podium. For sure, less pressure, because winning the first world title is the toughest and for sure now, a lot of pressure fell off my shoulders and I can be easy going this weekend.
Lucas Coenen: I mean, honestly first time in USA, excited to be here. I made a nice race last year and consistency and speed we have in this team. I am looking forward to it. I mean, I am always thinking of being the best, but it’s the team that is important, but I am looking forward to racing the other 450 guys and get a good start and see what happens.
Sasha Coenen: I am feeling really good and love being in the US and I hope to have a good weekend. It is special to race with Lucas in the team.
Liam Everts: It would be super special to make it on the podium, and we have the potential to do it and all three need to be on our game. To be on the 450, was an easier step that I would imagine, it suits me more than the 250, with the bottom power and let the bike do its thing.
