MXoN - Who Wins?
Well, now a month before the Monster Energy Motocross of Nations blasts into life, at the beautiful Matterley Basin circuit and below are most of the teams that have already been announced. Its going to be a big one, with teams like Australia, The Netherlands, USA, France, Italy, Spain, Germany, Belgium, Switzerland and Great Britain having exciting looking line-ups.
An event that will probably bring some drama, and without doubt, most of the leading riders in the World will love Matterley. The question is who wins. For me, its either one of my countries, my birth country, Australia, or my home for the last 33 years, The Netherlands, but those pesky French will probably ruin it all for me.
Then we have not their best team, but a very good Team USA, with their top two 450 riders and their second or third best 250 rider. Team Great Britain don’t really have a shot at winning it and even a podium would be a tall order, but what a great looking line-up of two of their best riders from the last two decades and their current 450 champion.
Crazy to think that Ken Roczen and Max Nagl, who helped Germany win in 2012 at Lommel, that ever so important victory for the Grand Prix paddock, are still racing for Team Germany, some 12 years later. And of course, MXoN veteran Tanel Leok, who has been racing this event for more than two decades is back, and then we have the rookies, Sasha Coenen and Chance Hymas in for their nations.
Talk about veterans, Glenn Coldenhoff makes his 13th straight appearance for the Dutch and his team-mate, Jeffrey Herlings (who debuted MXoN in 2010) is also back after missing a few Nations in recent years.
For me, its the big three in MXGP vs the AMA motocross and AMA supercross champions, Chase Sexton and Jett Lawrence that will be the big occasion. Hard to go past the intensity of this years MXGP championship, but Sexton and Lawrence are special and might just hand our boys their asses. We will wait and see.
For me, I am going with Australia as the winners, but my heart is also with The Netherlands. The Aussies have never won it and have been trying since 1984, and this might be their greatest chance ever.
