Nagl ADAC Champion 2024
Max Nagl secured the championship in Jauer. Cornelius Töndel celebrated his first overall victory of the season. Henry Jacobi secured a place on the overall podium after winning a race on Saturday.
Max Nagl (D/KMP-Honda-Racing powered by Krettek) secured his fifth title as ADAC MX Masters Champion early with second place in the second race in Jauer. In summer temperatures, the enthusiastic fans experienced the first overall victory of Cornelius Töndel (NO/Schmicker Racing), who won both races on Sunday, ahead of Nagl and Henry Jacobi (D/KTM Sarholz Racing Team), who won the first race on Saturday.
After a very strong first half of the season, it was only a matter of time before Max Nagl would defend his title, which he answered with second place in the second race and celebrated as the old and new ADAC MX Masters Champion 2024. With his fifth championship win, he drew level with the previous record champion Dennis Ullrich (D/KTM Sarholz Racing Team) and wrote German motocross history as the first rider to win three titles in a row. In the first race on Saturday, Nagl laid the foundation for the early title win by finishing second behind Jacobi. After winning the championship with second place in the second race, Nagl did not slow down in the third race and managed to jump to the second step of the overall podium in Jauer with third place behind race winner Töndel and Tom Koch (D/Kosak Racing Team).
"Winning a title is always something very special. I laid the foundation for this in the winter with my physical training. I tried to get the best out of myself all season long. The motorcycle ran perfectly this season, the team has improved the Honda even further since last year. It's great that we've won the championship so early, that takes the pressure off me. The track in Jauer didn't suit me so well at the beginning and I was surprised that I was able to improve again on Sunday. The great atmosphere with the enthusiastic fans in Jauer played its part. The season is not over yet, however, we will try to win the team and manufacturer rankings at the finale in Holzgerlingen, and I can't let up on that," said Max Nagl with satisfaction at the awards ceremony.
After Cornelius Töndel missed the last event due to injury, he made an impressive comeback in Jauer with overall victory. On Saturday he finished the first race in third place behind Jacobi and Nagl. On Sunday he won both races without any problems. In the second race he pushed Red Bull Holeshot winner Ullrich out of the lead after one lap and did not give up the lead until the finish. Jakub Teresak (CZ/Enduro Koch Racing) took third place in this race. In the third race Töndel was in front from the fifth lap and controlled his lead. Töndel is the fourth overall winner of the season.
“I am delighted with this victory. It was not that easy for me today because my choice of tires was geared to the hard ground of the track and not the loose surface at the start. But I was able to move up pretty quickly in each case. After winning the second race, I knew that this would also be possible in the third race. My driving felt good and I am happy to have finished three solid races," explained Cornelius Töndel on the podium.
After a few setbacks this year, Henry Jacobi returned on Saturday with an emotional and hard-fought race win. To the delight of the spectators, he put Max Nagl under pressure throughout the race, overtaking him on the last lap shortly after the pit lane and taking his first race win of the season. In the second race, Jacobi came out of the first lap in the midfield and improved to ninth place by the finish. In the third race, he took the lead from Nagl for a few laps before Töndel took the lead. With fifth place in the final race, Jacobi managed to make it onto the overall podium for the first time this season, behind Töndel and Nagl. Teresak and Koch rounded out the top five in Jauer.
“On Saturday I pushed the whole race to win. That was the highlight of my weekend. The chase to catch up in the second race cost me a lot of energy."
