  • Interview

2025 was the first full ADAC MX Masters season for Roan van de Moosdijk (NL/Kosak Racing Team). In a thrilling season finale in Holzgerlingen, he first snatched the championship lead from the veteran and record champion Max Nagl (D/Dörr Motorsport Triumph Racing powered by Krettek) on Saturday and then underlined his title entitlement with two race wins on Sunday. At the same time, he earned the Kosak Racing Team the first ADAC MX Masters title since the series was founded.

The 24-year-old Dutchman already has a successful international career, including finishing second in the 125cc Junior World Championship in 2016 with the DP19 Yamaha Team, winning the EMX 250 title with F&H Kawasaki in 2019 and achieving a number of Grand Prix race wins in the following years. How he fared this season, he revealed in the interview.

Congratulations on your first ADAC MX Masters title. How did you feel in Holzgerlingen when you finally got it safe?

"It was a great feeling when I finally crossed the finish line. It was quite a hectic weekend as I was so close to Max in the title fight. When I finally crossed the finish line, I was very relieved. It's something you don't often experience in life, the moment when you realize you've won the championship. That was just unbelievable."

What was the attitude going into the weekend in Holzgerlingen?

"I was pretty relaxed because I knew I was only three points behind. I had lost the Red Plate in Bitche, but it was clear to me that the better one would become champion in Holzgerlingen. So maybe it was even positive that I didn't have the Red Plate on my bike anymore. I was pretty relaxed before the weekend."

What goes through your head as the championship leader before the last race?

"On Saturday I was a bit nervous because I knew that if Max finished ahead of me, he would have an even bigger lead and be even more confident. I knew that Saturday was quite important. Fortunately, I finished ahead of Max in the first run and was in front again. But then it was quite hectic on Sunday morning because it had rained a lot overnight and it was muddy. But on this day everything was just right and I just let myself drift. In the first race on Sunday, I won the Red Bull Holeshot for the first time this season, which helped me a lot. I just concentrated on myself and was actually 'in the zone' from the first to the last lap in the second race. Athletes have that 'flow' feeling a few times in their careers when they just know it's their day and nothing can go wrong. I felt that that day. Perfect timing, then."

Is it a nice bonus that this is also the first ADAC MX Masters title for the Kosak Racing Team?

"I didn't know that it would be the first ADAC MX Masters title for Kosak. It's been a long time since the last championship title and I think Herbert and Kevin deserve this title. We work together in a small group that I have known for a year and a half now. They're just really nice people, and I'm very happy to give them this title."

Is this the biggest title success?

"I won the EMX title in 2019 at the age of 18. That was also a tough nut to crack. The ADAC MX Masters is my second major title win, which I'm obviously just as happy about."

What was a personal highlight of the season?

"I think that was in Tensfeld, when I won a race without a rear brake. I had collided with Max at the start and when I looked down, the rear brake was gone. So I thought to myself: How am I supposed to do it now? I was in fourth place and then somehow made it to the top, I overtook everyone. When I look back now, it was a pretty good race."

And which race was to forget?

"Of course, that was the crash after the start in Bielstein. That was a bad crash that I couldn't do anything about. I went to the ground, had a slight concussion, and a few days later I won my first ADAC overall victory. This made the success in Tensfeld all the more beautiful. Within just two weekends, ups and downs were close together."

After your first full ADAC MX Masters season: How strong is the series?

"I think it's a strong series. On the one hand, there are the old hands like Jordi Tixier and Max Nagl, but on the other hand, there are also really talented younger riders like Marcel Stauffer, Noah Ludwig and Max Spies. Sometimes you can see them doing well in MXGP as well, finishing just ahead of or in the top ten. It's a good mix and the pace is consistently good. I think it's a good championship."

What are the plans for the coming season?

"I haven't signed anything for next season yet, but let's put it this way: it looks quite good. I like how I've raced all the ADAC MX Masters and some European MXGP races this year. It was pretty tough, but that's what helps me get better when I'm competing against the best riders in the world. Of course, the year had a nice end and I would like to defend the title."
