Kawasaki factory rider, Romain Febvre is a two-time World motocross champion and the Frenchman, who without doubt deserves that second title, after having so many seasons battling the likes of Tim Gajser, Jeffrey Herlings and Jorge Prado.

The 2015 MXGP champion was solid in 2025 and no rider in the sports history has won a second world title a decade after the first (without anything inbetween). Febvre also becomes the first Kawasaki world champion in the premier class since Sebastien Tortelli in 1998.

On the back of all the negative press on the whole Jorge Prado/Kawasaki story in USA, its nice for the hard working Kawasaki GP team to get some credability back for the Japanese brand.

Febvre will now head to Ironman in USA with Team France and try and capture yet another Chamberlain Trophy, to go with his long list of MXoN victories.

MXLarge: How do you feel?

Febvre: I feel really good, to be in this dream position and to be world champion and this one feels better than the first one. I was young then and after the first one, I was so busy, and I didn’t even enjoy that moment. Now, ten years later I am enjoying every moment of it. This season has been very hard, for all of us. I had to work really hard for this, like everybody else. I didn’t shy away or get down sometimes. I didn’t get some injuries, like in previous years. It was so hard, but I came through and now to be world champion again, it feels like none of the bad stuff happened. I am so grateful of all the opportunities I have in my life. I have a beautiful family, my daughter and that is what matters.

MXLarge: It was a tough championship, with Lucas fighting, but did you have any doubts throughout the season?

Febvre: When you fight for the championship and you are counting the points, like we were down to nine. After Lommel, nine is nothing. I had to go through that, and I did the best I could with that and dealt with that. I mean, nine points, it was like we just restarted the championship. I needed to work even harder and to get prepared mentally also. When you are chasing, it is sometimes easier than leading. When you have to defend, but I was enjoying every single race and even the first one today, I was with them at the front, and I was riding well. Of course, after China I didn’t have to stress anymore, so I could enjoy Australia a little more.

MXlarge: Did you learn anything from 2021, when you battled both Jeffrey and Tim, because that was a tough battle with two legends of the sport. What did you learn from that?

Febvre: Thanks for reminding me, a championship I lost by five points. Yes, I learnt something, I will always remember 2021, but also, when you fight against the best, you need to prepare everything and with Tim and Jeffrey, I learnt to be a little more to stay with the same thing and be consistent and don’t change anything when it goes bad. Do not panic and start to change things. In Lommel, I was nine points down and I knew I had to keep things the same and with tracks I liked coming, I would be okay. I had a good GP in Sweden and then also in China I did good. I think I learnt to do that piece better.

MXLarge: Can you tell us about Lucas, because he showed so much this year, being very mature and sometimes he was like the mature one. What can you tell us about him.

Febvre: Yes, for sure, everybody can agree, he was incredible this year, to be new in the class and also so young. Normally, they move from the MX2 class, but not this young and I knew that lets say, he would be my main guy for the title. It is crazy, he has his whole career in front of him. I knew from my rookie year, you maybe don’t have as much pressure, like Gajser in his rookie year (in 2016). You don’t care about anything, and you just learn and don’t question yourself. Halfway through the season, he already proved what he is capable of doing and whatever came after that was just a plus. He had nothing to prove anymore, and he was just going for it. He has a great career ahead of him.

MXLarge: Are you excited for the MXoN in America in two weeks’ time?

Febvre: I am excited, but I don’t really care to be honest. This (the world championship trophy), that is what is important. I am sorry, but I just don’t care. We will see, I will enjoy of course, get ready for the Nations, but it has never been my priority, this (MXGP) has always been my priority.

MXLarge: What did you think about coming here for the Australian Grand Prix, the organizers and the track?

Febvre: Actually, the same as what Glenn said (Glenn Coldenhoff said, it should be GP of the year). The track was a little bit small on lap times, but preparation was really good and this was not the same guys we are used to working with, because with the heat, normally, the track would be rock hard, but they prepared the track so well. Watering was perfect, not too much and it was great preparation, and they made today, like, every corner had double lines, outside and inside and we don’t always have that. Many tracks are often one lines, but the organization was good and also the paddock area, a bit like Qatar. It is good to finish the season with this type of track and organization.

MXLarge: Will you wear the number one plate in 2026?

Febvre: Of course, yes, f**k yes. Like in the US, you know who the champion is and yes, number one is number one, 10 years ago I didn’t care.
