Spies Wins In Germany
Maximilian Spies surprises with victory at the ADAC MX Masters in Gaildorf. Roan Van de Moosdijk takes the lead in the championship. Marcel Stauffer impresses with race win.
The numerous spectators in Gaildorf experienced an eventful race weekend at the sixth round of the ADAC MX Masters. Maximilian Spies (D/Becker Racing) secured the event victory on the "Auf der Wacht" race track. Roan Van de Moosdijk (NL/Kosak Racing Team) took the lead of the standings with third place in Gaildorf.
After two difficult events due to injury, Maximilian Spies came up trumps in Gaildorf and achieved his first event victory of the season. After two solid fourth places in the first two races, he took the lead from Red Bull Holeshot winner Noah Ludwig (D/KTM Sarholz Racing Team) on the first lap of the third race and then drove away from the rest of the field. Van de Moosdijk reduced Spies' lead in the course of the race, but fell back a few places due to technical problems. As a result, Jordi Tixier (F/ KMP-Honda-Racing powered by DVAG) and Jörgen-Matthias Talviku (EST/JMT Esttrans Yamaha Keskus Racing Team) slipped into the chasing positions.
"I felt good all weekend. In the first two races, the starts weren't so good, but I managed to do that in the third race. I was able to pass Noah quickly and then drove at my own pace in a controlled manner. I tested tyres extensively last week, which paid off here because I felt very comfortable with them. I hope that I can achieve such a result again this season," Spies said happily.
Jordi Tixer started the weekend strongly as Acerbi's Best Qualifier with the fastest lap time in qualifying. In the first race on Saturday, he underlined this performance with second place. He fought his way forward continuously in the course of the race and even put pressure on the race winner van de Moosdijk at the end. In the second run, he thwarted a better result than fifth place with two crashes. In the third race, he proved his strength on the hard ground and moved up to second place ahead of Talviku. With second place in Gaildorf, Tixier climbed onto the podium for the second time in his third race of the season.
"I've worked hard in the last few weeks to get back to my old pace. I showed that well in qualifying. After the three difficult months with the back injury, I can't keep up this high pace over an entire race distance. Apart from the second run, where I made life difficult for myself, I'm satisfied and I'm getting back to my old self step by step. The atmosphere here was fantastic and I had a lot of fun riding in front of all the fans," Tixier beamed.
Roan Van de Moosdijk already made up a lot of points on the leader of the standings Max Nagl (D/Dörr Motorsport Triumph Racing powered by Krettek) on Saturday with the race win in the first race ahead of Tixier and Ludwig. In the second race, Van de Moosdijk scored well again with second place behind Marcel Stauffer (A/Osicka MX Team). In the final race, Van de Moosdijk caught up with the leading Spies before dropping back to eleventh place. He improved to eighth place by the finish. Tied on points with Tixier, he finished in third place. Nagl struggled with health problems and only finished tenth at the weekend. Van de Moosdijk now leads the championship by four points ahead of Nagl, Spies, Talviku and Ludwig, who again won all the Red Bull holeshots over the weekend.
"I'm very happy about the lead in the standings, it was a good weekend. I'm a bit dissatisfied with the third run, because after a good start I was on a good course for the overall victory here, then the chain jumped off, which I had to put back on at the side of the track. But in the end I was lucky, because the whole thing could have ended really stupidly. So now I have reason to celebrate," Van de Moosdijk said with satisfaction.
