Supercross Stuttgart - Preview
This year's 40th ADAC Supercross Stuttgart on Friday and Saturday (8th and 9th November) will see a special constellation. Last year's overall winner of the SX1 class and thus "King of Stuttgart", Frenchman Gregory Aranda, is aiming to defend his title. Maxime Desprey, who dominated the SX2 class last year and is known as the "Prince", is not defending his title. Instead, he will also be competing in the SX1 and wants to challenge his compatriot for the crown.
A few days before the 40th anniversary edition of the ADAC Supercross Stuttgart, anticipation is growing. Fans are excited to see which top riders and favorites will fight for the daily and overall victories.
The direct encounter between last year's "King of Stuttgart" and the "Prince of Stuttgart" will be particularly exciting and will add to the excitement.
In November 2023, Gregory Aranda showed an outstanding performance in the top SX1 category and won the final races on both evenings. The now 35-year-old secured the prestigious title of Stuttgart Supercross King for the third time in his career. His compatriot Cedric Soubeyras took second place in both cases and was later able to take revenge as the "King of Dortmund". Soubeyras broke his hip at the start of the Supercross World Championship in Canada at the end of October and will be out for the rest of the current SX season.
This means that another Stuttgart SX nobleman has become Aranda's biggest challenger - Maxime Desprey. The Frenchman, four years younger, confidently won both evenings in the 250cc SX2 class last year and was overall winner of the 2023/2024 ADAC SX Cup. Now he is returning to SX1, where he has already demonstrated his skills several times. Whether he can hold a candle to Greg Aranda remains to be seen.
The French dominance continues: Jordi Tixier, former motocross world champion (2014 MX2) and "King of Dortmund" 2023, will also be at the start and will demonstrate his supercross talent. So will Thomas Ramette, who took third place in Stuttgart last year, as well as the long-standing favorites Charles Lefrancois, Julien Lebeau and Boris Maillard.
In recent years, well-known names or promising talents have often come from the USA to the ADAC Supercross Stuttgart. This year, Marshal Weltin, Jeremy Hand, Mitchell Harrison and Devin Simonsen are real surprise packages. Mitchell Harrison and Jeremy Hand achieved the best results with 27th and 28th place finishes in the hotly contested US Supercross Championship. Marshal Weltin finished twelfth in the East Coast 250cc US Supercross Championship and also had good success in Arenacross, which is similar to our Supercross.
From a German perspective, all eyes are on Maximilian Spies. The 20-year-old, a top rider in the ADAC MX Masters, has already had two respectable seasons as a part-time world championship rider in the premier class MXGP. Now he is competing in the Hanns-Martin-Schleyer-Halle for the first time and expectations are high.
After Maxime Desprey moved to SX1, the SX2 class is being reshuffled. French riders like Calvin Fonvielle, who came second overall behind Desprey in Stuttgart and in the SX Cup last year, also have a good chance of finishing in the top places. Brice Maylin, who finished fourth overall two years ago, is also a hot contender for the title of Prince. In his German debut in 2023, US boy Brandon Ray showed a strong performance on Friday with his third place, but missed the final on the second evening. This year, Preston Boespflug from the USA is coming to a German Supercross for the first time. As 15th in the 250cc East Coast US SX Championship, he has already had success.
Expectations for the German riders are high, especially for Paul Haberland, the "Prince of Stuttgart" in 2019, and the two double finalists in 2023, Paul Bloy and Nico Koch. The two starting fields promise exciting races and leave little to be desired.
The anniversary event is sold out except for a few remaining tickets. The ADAC Württemberg plans to release an additional ticket contingent after the track is completed on Thursday evening. These tickets are then only available online at Easy Ticket Service.
If you were unable to get hold of tickets, you don't have to miss out on the racing action. Because when the starting shot for the ADAC Supercross Stuttgart is fired, the cameras will be there live again. This year, the streaming platform Spyty will once again be broadcasting the event in full on both days.
