Webster in Command in OZ
Round seven of the Penrite ProMX Championship, presented by AMX Superstores (ProMX), heads to the sunny state of Queensland this weekend, with Toowoomba’s scenic Echo Valley circuit hosting the penultimate round of this year’s campaign.
Under a two-hour drive from the state’s capital Brisbane, the Toowoomba venue is always a popular one amongst fans and riders alike, with its sweeping hills and technical, rutted conditions lending itself to spectacular motocross action.
Leading the charge will be the Kawasaki MX1 and the Pirelli MX2 Championships, with MAXXIS MX3 and the EZILIFT MXW divisions promising entertaining, high-octane racing for the seventh round.
The Kawasaki MX1 class experienced a massive shake-up last week, with series leader Jed Beaton (Vic) bowing out of the remaining two rounds of this year’s championship due to a broken femur sustained in a training incident. The injury marks a significant blow to the Monster Energy CDR Yamaha team, with Beaton holding a 29pt advantage with two races to contest.
This brings defending class champion Kyle Webster (Vic) right back into the thick of the action, alongside KTM Racing Team’s Nathan Crawford (Qld), who trails Boost Mobile Honda’s Webster by 15pts leading into Toowoomba. The fight atop of the Kawasaki MX1 category is well and truly alive, with each rider looking to gain maximum points in Echo Valley.
Making a welcome return to the podium in Canberra, Honda Racing’s Wilson Todd (Qld) continues to build throughout the latter stages of the season and sits fourth in the series standings, with an overall podium the target for both he and the team. Privateer revelation Zachary Watson (Qld) is fifth overall and will look to continue his scintillating form across the final two events.
Series veterans and former Kawasaki MX1 champions Kirk Gibbs (SA) and Todd Waters (Qld) hold positions six and seven respectively, while a challenging recent stretch of racing sees Penrite Racing Empire Kawasaki’s Luke Clout (NSW) in eighth overall, with the now Queensland-based rider looking to rebound in Toowoomba.
It’s all to play for the Kawasaki MX1 division, with Beaton’s injury throwing the door wide open for the contenders who are next in line, with Toowoomba serving as a key round to determine the late-season narrative.
Defending champion and Pirelli MX2 series leader Brodie Connolly (Vic) has been the rider to beat across the previous three rounds, having claimed five of the last six race wins, and as a result leads the category by 38pts over Monster Energy Yamalube Yamaha’s Ryder Kingsford (NSW). It’ll take a lot to slow the number one down, although Toowoomba provides an opportunity to do so.
The battle for third position in the championship is fierce entering the penultimate round, with KTM Racing Team’s Noah Ferguson (Qld) holding a 1pt advantage over NFAL Honda’s Alex Larwood (SA). A further 14pts back is the second factory KTM of Byron Dennis (NSW), with each rider looking to lay claim to a series podium result in 2025.
Jayce Cosford (NSW) is sixth, followed by Cobie Bourke (NSW), class rookie Seth Burchell (NSW), Rhys Budd (NSW), and Deacon Paice (WA) to complete the top 10, as each rider looks to elevate position during the final two rounds of racing.
Plenty of action remains in the Pirelli MX2 division, with the Toowoomba stop adding another chapter to what has been a strong season of racing so far.
Honda Racing’s Kayd Kingsford (NSW) has been the standout of the MAXXIS MX3 class, having claimed five of six overall wins in 2025 to carry a 43pt advantage entering the penultimate round in Toowoomba.
Opening round winner Ky Woods (NSW) will be looking to reclaim his early-season form to improve at both Echo Valley and Queensland Moto Park, as Honda’s Jet Alsop (Qld) is hot on his heels with just 5pts separating the duo entering round seven.
Jack Deveson (Qld) and Seth Shackleton (WA) continue their all-out duel that has spanned the duration of the championship, with each rider trading blows throughout the season. They’re tied on 178pts a piece, with each rider intent on disposing of the other once and for all, with this battle one to watch this weekend.
The MAXXIS MX3 category features some of Penrite ProMX’s finest up-and-coming talent, with Kingsford and company emerging as riders to watch for the future in the professional ranks.
The nation’s fastest female talent will line up once more in Toowoomba, as the EZILIFT MXW class returns to the track for the first time since Gillman. Defending champion Charli Cannon (Qld) maintains a clean sheet atop of the series standings, leading Penrite Racing Empire Kawasaki’s Taylah McCutcheon (Qld) in second place.
Third position belongs to KTM-mounted Taylor Thompson (NSW), while Karaitiana Horne (NZ) and Darci Whalley (Vic) complete the top five positions in the class.
Two rounds remain in the EZILIFT MXW division, with the number one of Cannon needing to be stopped in Toowoomba if riders are to have any chance at this year’s championship.
