Herlings Wins in UK
HRC factory rider, Jeffrey Herlings has gone 1-1 at the latest round of the British 450 championship. The Dutchman looked solid all day and didn’t really have too many problems in his victory. Second overall was another Honda rider in, Conrad Mewse with 2-2 results and third was Ben Watson with 4-3. Fourth was Oriol Oliver with 3-4 scores.
The championship is still a close one with both Watson and Oliver having the same points with Mewse making up some ground after an average opening round at Hawkstone Park.
Jeffrey Herlings: I was like, finally got a holeshot and I couldn't get my start device to work and then finally it popped out. I was frustrated, because I had a massive crash in Spain because of that. Parts of the track were gnarly, but the rest of the track was great, I loved racing here and a pleasure to be here.
Conrad Mewse: First moto was good, came through the pack and saw Jeffrey every laps and I tried to keep him in my sights and then the sedcond moto I had a good start and I wanted to latch on and go with his pace and he is a multi world champion and I couldn't be on that pace. If Jeffrey wasn't here I went 1-1.
Ben Watson: Oriol was all over my wheel and I was protecting my lines and it was sketchy and hard to pass. I had a big crash early in the first race and then crashed again late in the race. Not feeling great. 2021 was the last time at Lyng (next round) and I raced well there with Jeffrey. Another sand track and red plate doensn't mean anything yet.
Herlings led the second race from Sterry, Mewse, Watson, Oliver, Meara, Hammal,Putnam, Wade and Grimshaw. After five laps Herlings, Mewse, Watson, Oliver, Sterry, Hammal, Purdon, Bruce, Meara, and Grimshaw. Oliver all over Watson for third place as Herlings and Mewse ride off into the distance. Herlings wins it from Mewse and Watson.
