Jeff Leisk on Aussie GP
Australian Grand Prix legend, Jeff Leisk has sung his praises for the circuit, for the MXGP of Australia, which he believes will be a true test for the world’s best. Built in an area of the famous motorracing facility, with plenty of undulation, there is no doubt, the action will be first class.
Leisk who raced for the strong HRC factory team, for a couple of years of the Grand Prix series, winning GPs in Finland, France and San Marino and finishing second in the World, and was a constant top rider in the Motocross des Nations in the late 1980s and early 1990s is excited for the circuit that is being built for the Australian Grand Prix, set for Darwin in Australia in mid September.
“The design Protraxx has delivered is epic,” Leisk said. “The world’s best riders want to be challenged – pushed to the absolute limit of control – to gain an advantage over their rivals. This track has all the elements to do just that. What I also love about the design is that spectators will be able to see most of the track from almost every vantage point. And because it’s part of the Hidden Valley Motor Sports Complex, it has all the facilities needed to make the fan experience world-class.”
Built to what is described as ‘strict international premium standards,’ this allows for bigger jumps, faster straights, and more technical obstacles. A breakdown of the circuit sees 22 corners, 21 jumps, and a 90-metre start straight built with a 70/30 mix of sand and clay. The circuit also runs through bushland, giving it a really Aussie feel for the international fans.
We have been told that ticket sales are very good, and a large crowd is expected, and as was reported last week, there are already a list of wild-card riders from Australia, padding the field somewhat. Do not be surprised to see riders from other parts of Asia also involved as the cost to fly from Indonesia is very reasonable.
